Molex and Rosenberg sign a dual source agreement for high-speed connected vehicle applications
Release Time: 2018-07-06 16:28:00.000
Molex and Rosenberger have signed a dual-sourcing agreement that will allow Molex to manufacture high-speed FAKRA-Mini automotive coaxial connectors based on Rosenberger's HFM® design. Rosenberger's HFM FAKRA-Mini system enables extremely high data rates of 20 Gbps and is designed for use in a range of existing and future automotive applications such as Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), navigation, in-vehicle infotainment systems, and smart connected vehicles.
Under this dual-source agreement, Rosenberger and Molex will provide cost-optimized, high-quality, high-speed intermateable interfaces that are mechanically and electrically identical in performance and features. The solution provides seamless backward compatibility for the automotive market.
"Molex is excited to partner with Rosenberger on this dual-source HFM solution to enable the high-speed data transmission capabilities critical to connected vehicle technologies," said Ryan Price, director of network segmentation at Molex. "We share a common vision to deliver high-value, cost-effective solutions that provide design flexibility and backward compatibility."
Connected and autonomous vehicle architectures place significant demands on bandwidth and security, requiring a robust infrastructure to operate the multitude of devices, screens and cameras. The HFM FAKRA-Mini connector provides the highest bit-rate data transmission while saving up to 80% of installation space and significantly reducing weight compared to conventional generation FAKRA products.
"Ensuring safety is the highest priority for ADAS and autonomous driving systems, and HFM connectors play a key role in processing massive amounts of data from cameras, sensors, navigation sources, and other external objects in real time ,” said Dr. Tosja Zywietz, CEO of Rosenberger AG. "We are very pleased to be working with Molex to make this next-generation coaxial connector widely available to the automotive industry as a pre-standard."
Under the terms of the product dual sourcing agreement, there is no investment relationship between Molex and Rosenberger. For more information on HFM Mini-FAKRA automotive coaxial connectors, please visit https://www.molex.com/automotive/ .
